POWER begins on a terraced street in lockdown London, drawing on mutual aid networks to kickstart a vision to ‘build back better.’
Mass participation art and documentary film combine as a diverse community come together to recognise their power and quite literally create it - moving from consumers to collective producers of energy - and more importantly justice.
WHO ARE WE...
AND WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
We're artists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn and before we started POWER we hacked into the secondary debt market and blew up £1.2m of high interest debt.
Our new project emerges directly from our project BANK JOB—a community heist on the financial system where art, film and action have come together to write off £1.2 million of local payday debt and be part of a call for a global jubilee. Bank Job involved the building and participation of a far reaching local and global community printing money in a defunct 'rebel' bank in Walthamstow, London and joining us online.
Now we're on the journey with our new project POWER asking the big questions...
—What should we do now?
—How do we get together and change our world at this critical time?
—What actions can we take both individually and in our communities that will be a good testament to our lives and for our children?
